My wife and I land at Haneda airport and will be in Tokyo for 5 days and don’t know which JR Pass to get. We will only be in the Tokyo area and will do one day trip to Kyoto and back. It’s not clear which regional JR Pass would cover Tokyo and the Shinkansen to and from Kyoto. Can anyone please help?

My impression is that if you are doing a day trip to Kyoto, the best value would be to buy the ticket directly

That’s really helpful, but how would you suggest I get around Tokyo? Should I get a Suica card or a specific JR East pass? If JR East pass which one would cover just Tokyo including Haneda airport to Tokyo?
