Can I purchase a jr pass online and receive it electronically (same day) or must it be delivered by mail? I am leaving for Tokyo for the US today.

The JR Pass can’t be emailed due to the strict regulations of the Japanese Government. It is required to present the physical Exchange Order at any of the exchange offices in Japan. To receive the actual JR Pass, you will be asked to provide the Exchange Order together with your passport.
