JR Pass and Suica / Pasmo cards

I would like to ask you guys if what you think of my following plans:

Traveling to Japan from US in mid-May for 10 days. Destinations are Tokyo, 1 night, then to Kyoto 4 nights with 1 day trip to Osaka; then back to Tokyo for remaining 5 nights. My plan is to buy 7-day JR Pass -$400 (which I suppose should cover the Shinkansen rides), then 5-day Suica or Pasmo Greater Tokyo card. Is tgis a good plan or do you have a better advice? First time Japan traveler.

Thanks!

Andre

That’s not a bad itinerary. My only advice is forget the JR Pass. Round-trip tickets from Tokyo to Kyoto on the Shinkansen are only about $US200. The JR Pass requires constant long distance travel to make it worthwhile.

Thank you very much, Greg! I appreciate it.
