JR East pass or JR pass

Hi… I would like to travel around Tokyo and to Sendai. (2nd trip to Japan, and have visited most of other areas) So I was thinking of just taking the JR east pass.

I wonder if JR east pass covers JR lines within Tokyo… and also cover the trip from Tokyo to Mt. Takao, and what is the suggested route to take? Or is it better to take the Keio line?

Thank you

Hi debstravel

I just looked at their website

It looks like the pass covers all the JR lines in tokyo “JR east”
I looks like you can still get most of the way to Mt Takao by using JR chuo line to JR takao station, and pay a little for the keio line

Hi Debstravel,

Searching online, I found that the JR Pass covers all JR Group limited express trains, express trains, rapid and local ones. Shinkansen bullet trains are also included, except NOZOMI and MIZUHO. However, this pass doesn’t allow you to ride on subways or trams within cities.

I hope this information helps you to solve your doubts.
