Introduce yourself — who are you, where are you and what do you do?

Hi I’m Sergio from Spain!
I’m going to be living in Tokyo - Shinjuku neighborhood next november. I will be so happy to meet anyone that is living there and show me your city!

It’s my 3rd trip to Japan but the first one that long and only staying in a city! so feel free to give me any advice! Thanks in advance!

I’m actually studying japanese but still in the begginer level. I started this year as a new years resolutions!

Aloha,
My name is Ray Marrero, Esq. and I am from Hawaii by way of California. I am a California Attorney working remotely with clients throughout the US and soon in Japan.

I currently live in Matsuyama, Ehime, on the Island of Shikoku for 15 out of my 16 years in Japan. We are famous for Dogo Onsen, Mikans. clean air, and good food. Matsuyama is not an exciting city; but, it also is not a terrifying city!

I have lived in Japan for 16 years so far and I can’t remember why I came to Japan. It’s hazy; I remember being drunk and someone dared me! However, I have been institutionalized and can’t function in the real world any longer.

Japan is made for travel and riding bicycles, I like traveling and riding a bicycle around Japan. I love traveling to Asia and Hawaii. I am all about fun and will do anything that doesn’t require a prescription.

My top Matsuyama tip is shut the hell up when you arrive for at least 6 months. You don’t know anything and everybody has already heard it. Smile and treat everybody with kindness and respect. It is like the book, ‘The Little Prince’. Every day Japanese will come closer and closer to you. Get into a group hobby; be humble, and really make friends. They let you into their circle; act like you belong and are proud to be there.

I tolerate Natto. It’s just an dish. Do you like Chorizo?

Finally & Seriously. Are you feeling a chill in the air from your friends, family, or people in general when they see you are a foreigner? Japanese politics towards immigration is tilting to the right and politicians are competing to see who hates foreigners more.

Sadly, to the locals, one G looks like another G these days. I’m working on getting my Naturalized Citizenship before they make me score 1000 on the SAT; win a Nobel Peace Prize; and deposit $10.5 Million USD into a bank account that I can’t touch!

Mahalo!
Ray Marrero, Esq. Attorney & Counselor at Law
