Can anyone recommend any good day trips from Tokyo? My friend and I will be there for just over a week in August and we'd love to explore further afield - thinking anywhere that's the countryside or nice suburb areas, maybe good for walking?
Hi, there are so many to choose from! This is my favourite though, it's perfect in the summer and it's quite unusual. You might even see the statue when you fly in! https://tokyocheapo.com/lifestyle/outdoors/ushiku-daibutsu-ibaraki-giant-buddha/
Kamakura is a great day trip. It's the ancient capital of Japan, plus it has some hills for hiking and a beach! One of our writers Aaron did an article on a day out there:https://tokyocheapo.com/travel/holidays/kamakura-hiking-and-a-hidden-mountain-cafe/

Great Buddha hiking course in Kamakura in the morning, then explore Enoshima island and chill at the beach. Also check out the beaches in Shimoda, about 3 hours away.
