I am looking at travelling from Tokyo to Mt Fuji - is there a direct bullet train to that destination? Also does anyone know how to book the boat ride on lake Ashi as we wish to do that also.
Mount Fuji spans two prefectures and there is no Mount Fuji station. The station with the best access is Odawara, but from there you still need to make your way to Kawaguchiko where you can catch a bus to Mount Fuji 5th station.
If you want views of Mount Fuji, then a trip to Kawaguchiko (Lake Kawaguchi) is probably your best bet. Depending on weather you can get a decent view of Mt. Fuji from Lake Ashi in the Hakone area.
My recommendation if you have limited time is to take a bus tour from Tokyo, or do the Hakone Free Pass (not a JR line) by train from Shinjuku Station.
There are also some tours that have a bus component with return to Tokyo by Shinkansen from Odawara Station.
